Reps Finally Meet ‘Unconstitutional’ Ibas After Postponements, Session Goes Behind Closed Doors

The long-awaited meeting between the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee and the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas, finally held on Thursday after a series of delays.

The meeting is part of the House’s ongoing exercise of its constitutional powers to temporarily take over the functions of the Rivers State House of Assembly amid the ongoing political crisis in the state.

At the meeting, Ibas tendered an apology for his earlier absence and requested additional time to prepare a comprehensive briefing for the committee. He explained that he is still settling into his new role as Sole Administrator and appealed for the committee’s understanding and patience.

Following Ibas’ plea, members of the press were asked to vacate the venue, and the session proceeded behind closed doors.
