Senator donates food items, N11m to Kaduna orphans, widows
The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Barr. Sunday Katung has donated food items and the sum of N11 million to three orphanage homes within his constituency.
The donations were made separately to the Rafiki Orphanage Home, the ECWA Widows Training School in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, and the Gweimen Center, in Jaba Local Government Area.
Senator Katung said the gesture was part of activities marking his birthday and that of his mother.
Presenting the items at the three locations, the senator, represented by the Member representing Jema’a Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon. Ali Kalat, stated that the initiative was driven by his desire to support vulnerable members of society.
“Giving to the less privileged on his birthday has been a yearly tradition even before he became a senator,” Kalat recalled.
The chairman of the distribution committee and former Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Gideon Gwani, on his part, disclosed that the items distributed included 25 bags of rice (each), Indomie noodles, bags of semolina, and spaghetti.
He emphasised that the donation was part of the senator’s ongoing effort to promote unity, love, and compassion across the district.
In their separate remarks, Rev. Yunusa Madu, former ECWA General Secretary, and Alhaji Alhassan Garba, Chairman of Jama’atu Nasril Islam in Jema’a, commended the senator for his humanitarian efforts.
They noted that caring for orphans and widows is a divine act that attracts blessings from God.
Also speaking, the Zonal Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Akusor Danjuma, observed that Sen. Katung’s philanthropic activities have significantly boosted the image of the party in the zone.
Therefore, he urged other well-meaning individuals to emulate the senator by supporting the less privileged.
On their part, Cornelius Samuel, Mrs. Sarah Bature, and Dr. Felicia Kegang – the heads of Rafiki Orphanage Home, ECWA Widows Training School, and Gweimen Centre, respectively —expressed gratitude to the senator for his generosity.
Amina Musa, one of the beneficiaries, thanked the lawmaker for his continuous support and went philosophical by praying to God to replenish his resources.
