Supreme Court Sets Aside Court Of Appeal Ruling, Declares Julius Abure Not The Valid National Chairman Of Labour Party

The Supreme Court has overturned the Court of Appeal’s decision that recognized Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).

In a unanimous ruling, a five-member panel of the apex court stated that the Court of Appeal erred in asserting jurisdiction over the matter.

The court found that the case, which centered on the leadership of the party, was an internal issue within the Labour Party, and thus, courts do not have jurisdiction to intervene in such matters.

The Supreme Court also upheld the appeal filed by Senator Nenadi Usman and another petitioner, declaring their appeal meritorious. As a result, the court dismissed the cross-appeal by the Abure faction of the party, describing it as unmeritorious.

Additionally, the court noted that Abure’s tenure as National Chairman had already expired, further cementing the dismissal of the Abure faction’s appeal.

This ruling effectively nullifies the previous recognition of Julius Abure as the party’s National Chairman.
