Throughout Baldur’s Gate 3, the party will meet and work with many characters and organizations. Some of these can be recruited to aid in the final battle for the fate of Faerรปn, and they can help in a variety of ways. From buffing the party to directly getting involved in the fight some allies are worth making friends with.
[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Baldur’s Gate 3.]
The quest “Gather Your Allies” begins in Act 1 and continues right through to the end of Baldur’s Gate 3 with quests and dialogue choices impacting who will help. Each of the characters or groups available in the continuous quest has its own set of objectives that must be completed for them to be considered allies and come to the partyโs aid. While these are the best buffs to try to get, with around 28 individual allies gathering more is always better especially when fighting Netherbrains.
Dame Aylin is an aasimar paladin and daughter of the goddess Selรปne who can be met in Act 2 during the quest โFind the Nightsongโ. To recruit Aylin, she must be spared by Shadowheart which allows her to go free and reunite with her love Isobel. Aylin will join the party’s camp, along with Isobel, until the wizard Lorroakan is confronted, after which she will leave but return at the end of Act 3 in High Hall before the final battle begins.
As an ally Aylin gives the party the unique action Sword of the Silver light, which will summon her into combat. Aylin has some great moon-themed spells and as a level 11 paladin who can fly, she’s great to have on the field. There is sometimes a bug that causes Aylin to summon with reduced health however making sure she is fully healed while she is in camp should fix this issue.
Both Rolan and Lorroakan can be recruited as allies, although not at the same time as one will replace the other depending on choices made. To recruit Lorroakan he must be sided with when completing “Find the Nightsong” which will remove Aylin as a potential ally. The better option is to help Rolan who must be kept alive through each act of BG3 and then side with Aylin against Lorroakan.
Both Lorroakan and Rolan give the same benefit as allies, calling on the powers in Ramazith’s Tower to support the party. Whether called Rolan’s Firestorm or Lorroakan’s Firestorm the affect is the same as an enhanced version of fireball will be launched dealing AOE damage to all those caught in the six-meter radius. The effect deals 10d6 fire damage plus 10d6 force damage, which is fantastic but can only be used once during the final battle.
Both Dammon and the owlbear cub can be met in Act 1, with Dammon tending to his forge in the Druid Grove and the cub with its mother in a cave close by. To get the owlbear cub, its mother must unfortunately be killed after which it will find its way to the goblin camp where it will need to be rescued. To recruit Dammon he must remain alive through Acts 1 and 2 as well as complete all of Karlach’s upgrades.
For the final battle Dammon will have crafted armor for the owlbear who appears as an adult for the fight. The owlbear has the condition Dammon’s Special Brew which as polymorphed it into an adult as well induced a rage. This allows the owlbear to be stronger and jump further as well as have multiattack and rupture the ground.
Yurgir can be found deep in the Gauntlet of Shar in Act 2 and is trapped there thanks to a contract with Raphael. There are a few ways to help Yurgir, either by aiding him in fulfilling his contract or by killing him. Later when the party break into the House of Hope in Act 3, Yurgir will either side with them or can be persuaded to in the battle with Raphael.
If Raphael is defeated with Yurgir’s help, then he can be summoned into battle at the end of BG3. Yurgir is great both in melee and at ranged and can become invisible after attacking letting him maneuver around the battlefield. With a decent number of hit points and abilities at his disposal Yurgir can be resummoned throughout the battle unless he is killed.
Rescuing Halsin is one of the earliest quests given to the party after they arrive back on Faerรปn. He can be found in the Goblin Camp and after the Absolute leaders there have been defeated Halsin will join the party in Act 2. This is where Halsin’s personal quest begins as he seeks to lift the Shadow Curse which means rescuing Thaniel.
Once Thaniel has been rescued, Halsin will join the party as a full companion and will remain available so long as both Isobel and Aylin also survive Act 2. For the final battle the party will receive the buff Spirit of the Land which gives each party member plus one to all their ability scores and an extra two meters of movement. This might not sound like much, but the boost to ability scores and speed make movement around the battlefield and attack much easier.
Volo can first be met in the Druid Grove in Act 1, after which he will leave for the Goblin Camp where he will need rescuing. Volo will join the party camp after this as a vendor and also offer to help free the player character of their tadpole. Taking Volo up on his offer will cost the character an eye but Volo will provide Volo’s Ersatz Eye as a replacement granting the ability see invisibility.
Volo can be found again in Act 3 tied up by an angry mob and in need of rescue again. Once again Volo will join the party camp and provide the buff Volo’s Guide to Monsters in the final battle. This buff is fantastic as it gives a plus two to all attack rolls, saving throws, and ability checks for the entire party.
Mizora is the cambion patron of Wyll and will pop up during the events of BG3 so long as Wyll is in the party. In Act 2 Mizora must be saved from the Mind Flayer Colony, after which she’ll reappear in Act 3 after Gortash’s coronation. To recruit her for the final battle Wyllโs pact with Mizora must remain intact and she must be spoken to at camp.
When speaking with Mizora the option “If you’re going to be staying, I need something in return” must be chosen, after which she will agree to assist in the final fight. In the fight, Mizora can be summoned to rain down magic and has metamagic passives like a sorcerer. Mizora will remain until the party is out of combat, after this she can be summoned again unless she is killed.
Isobel is a cleric of Selรปne and daughter of Ketheric Thorm who can be met in Act 2 in the Last Light Inn. When met she is keeping the inn and the people there safe from the Shadow Curse with a powerful moon shield. There are two instances in Act 2 where Isobel can die, but she must be kept safe in order to be able to recruit Jaheira as well as keep Dammon, Rolan, and other vital NPCs alive.
If Aylin is freed at the end of Act 2 she will reunite with Isobel and join the party camp. If both Aylin and Isobel are free and alive by the time of the final battle both will lend their aid to the party. In the battle Isobel can provide a powerful healing spell that can heal six nearby allies for 14d6 hit points, but is a one-time use.
Duke Ulder Ravengard is the father of companion Wyll and is not met properly until Act 3 when the party must free him from the clutches of the Absolute. His kidnapping is mentioned in Act 1 when the Flaming Fist and Counsellor Florrick are met, after which the party will see Ravengard from a distance in the Mind Flayer Colony. But it won’t be until Act 3 and a trip to the Iron Throne that Ravengard can be recruited.
