Screen Rant has received an exclusive first look at a new trailer for the Meta Quest release of MLB Home Run Derby VR. Developed and published by MLB, this officially-licensed title gives players the chance to test their hitting skills in their favorite ballparks. Though already released for Steam VR and Rift, this Meta version will come with a host of new features for fans to explore.
The new trailer for MLB Home Run Derby VR showcases its Meta Quest gameplay, highlighting the title’s motion controls and realistic batting mechanics. Instead of assembling a team of the best hitters like in MLB The Show, players themselves will strive to smash their own home run records. The game features all 30 major league ballparks, and regardless of locale, players will now be able to design and utilize a custom clubhouse decked out in their favorite team’s colors.
The new trailer demonstrates the overall scoring mechanics alongside the Meta Quest hardware, where the area batters hit the ball impacts possible bonus scoring within the given time limit, complete with announcer commentary.
This Meta Quest release will add several new features, one of the largest of which is an entirely revamped progression system. Players will now be able to progress through 100 different skill levels of hitting. This is coupled with an achievement system that will offer unique customization unlocks, like changes to bats, gloves, and ball trails. Online multiplayer, tournaments, and an updated leaderboard system integrate new ways to compete as players battle for derby supremacy. Meta avatars are also fully supported in the updated game, appearing as they do across the rest of the Metaverse.
While beating personal records always provided some incentive to return to the title, the best baseball games offer more tangible forms of progress, and now MLB HRD VR has much more to offer on that front. Players being able to make progress across difficulty levels and unlocks alongside new online competition gives a much wider range of activities and ways to improve over time, both by themselves and with friends.
