Despite holding a slim 1-0 win lead in the race for a spot in the group stage of the 2024 Olympic Games, in Paris, France, Super Falcons striker, Esther Okoronkwo, believes the nine-time African champions will seal qualification in Pretoria next Tuesday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Rasheedat Ajibade made no mistake converting from the spot as Banyana Banyana went to the break trailing by the solitary strike.
Banyana Banyana will have to give it all in the second leg as both teams will clash again in Pretoria next Tuesday to determine who will feature at the summer games in France.
“For me, we’re going to Paris,”Okoronkwo, who was a second-half sub in the first game in Abuja said.
“We’re going to Paris.
“There is no question of losing because we will cope in the second leg.”
The Super Falcons created as many as 15 chances last Friday, but failed to take any and it needed a first-half penalty goal by skipper Rasheedat Ajibade to get them across the line.
Ex-Super Falcons star, Stella Mbachu, also expressed confidence in team’s quest to qualify for the Olympics for the first time since 2008.
“We must qualify for the Olympics,”Mbachu told PUNCH Sports Extra.
“We are going to win them over there. The Falcons dominated them (Banyana) in the first leg despite their defensive tactics in Abuja. We have the strenght and pace to see them off in the second leg in South Africa.
“It is time we qualify because history will remember these girls for that feat.”
