The Lagos State government has removed illegal structures on setbacks on Fafunwa Street, Victoria Island.
The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on Sunday through his handle @tokunbo_wahab on X.
He added that the mechanics on MacGregor Road in the Ikoyi area of Lagos were also dislodged after several complaints from the public, saying this was done after the occupants did not yield to the several notices served on them.
Wahab wrote, “On Friday, April 5, 2024, in response to public complaints received by the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, and after serving several notices to mechanics on MacGregor Road, Ikoyi to vacate the area, they were dislodged. Also, illegal structures placed on the setback at Sanusi Fafunwa Street, Victoria Island were removed.”
The move was another one in a series of operations by the state government targeted at removing illegal structures and dislodging the occupants.
The government in March began the removal of illegal structures and shanties to reclaim coastal road alignment for the ongoing construction of the Lagos-Calabar Highway project.
The President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government announced last month it had begun the construction of the 700-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
The coastal highway project is expected to gulp N1.067tn for the first phase of construction.
