GTA 6's Most Popular Jason Theory Officially Debunked

While Rockstar may still be keeping its cards close to its chest regarding Grand Theft Auto VI, one actor wants to set the record straight on whether he’s in the game or not. Dropping in late 2023, the official teaser trailer for the next entry in the ever-popular GTA franchise took the world by storm, answering many questions while still leaving room for the community to speculate. One source of confusion is who is playing the two protagonists and while no performers have been announced just yet, one theory has officially been debunked.

Speaking on The Movie Dweeb, veteran voice actor Troy Baker extinguished rumors that he’s playing the unnamed male protagonist in Grand Theft Auto VI, joking that he was confused by all the speculation based on the fact that the character says a single word in the trailer.

Baker elaborated that while he’s definitely not voicing Jason, the name the community has bestowed upon the character, he wants the person who’s actually behind the microphone to get the credit. “Those guys pour themselves into those characters, and they deserve all of the credit for their work, not me,” Baker said.

As Baker shoots down rumors that he’s the voice of Jason, the GTA community continues to avidly search for who may have landed the role. Some believe the part to be played by William Popp, listing evidence that the actor deleted their Instagram within the last six months, approximately around the time fans seemingly unearthed that Manni L. Perez was playing Lucia, a discovery which has still yet to be officially confirmed. For his part, Popp hasn’t addressed any kind of casting rumors so whether or not he has a starring role in Grand Theft Auto VI remains to be seen.

When it comes to figuring out the voices behind Grand Theft Auto‘s characters, the franchise’s community is incredibly efficient. While Perez hasn’t been locked in as Lucia, it only took followers a matter of days to come up with the theory. It’s also worth remembering that just a week after the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 5 dropped, fans deduced that Ned Luke was playing the lead role of Michael De Santa.

Now that Baker is confirmed to not be playing a protagonist in Grand Theft Auto VI, the community is no doubt already looking into who could be behind the character. There’s currently not much evidence to go on given that Jason only delivers a single line of dialogue in the entire trailer, so until some more footage or an official announcement comes along, fans will be left to speculate. Perhaps Popp is the vocal talent behind the character but that remains to be seen.
