The member representing Oron/Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko/Urueoffong Oruko Federal Constituency, Akwa Ibom State, Martins Essien, has commended Governor Umo Eno’s leadership style.
He said the style was instilling unprecedented sense of belonging in the people and promoting unity across the state.
Essien stated this while speaking with newsmen on Friday in Oron Local Government Area.
He explained that without agitation, the number and quality of projects executed by the governor in the constituency was unprecedented, expressing optimism that the feat would be sustained throughout the lifespan of the administration.
He said, “Let’s face it. Our federal constituency has never fared this well under any Governor since the advent of this democracy.
“Without crying ourselves hoarse without much fruit as usual, Pastor Umo Eno has been very prompt in attending to the needs of Oron people.
“It started with the choice of a complete Oron patriot, Senator Akon Eyakenyi as running mate. Although some persons tried to make light of that development, it has turned out to be a precursor to the Governor’s friendly disposition towards Oron Federal Constituency.”
Essien explained that a certain Ukpong Street and Efiong Essang Street in Oron town were ravaged by gully erosion and so, impassable until the Governor awarded contracts for their construction within his first 100 days in office.
He stated, “I don’t know the last time our federal constituency was meaningfully a part of any Governor’s first 100 days plan. We have enjoyed it under the present administration. Work is ongoing at Ukpong and Efiong Essang Streets.
“Beyond that, one of the greatest headaches of Oron people is the bad state of the Uyo – Nsi t Attai – Okobo – Oron Road. The Governor has awarded a contract for the dualisation of phase two, spanning 13.5 kilometres from Okopedi in the Okobo Local Government Area and terminating at Uya Oro in the East-West Road.
“Same day, he flagged off the 13.6km Orukim – Unyenghe – Universal Energy Road to provide access to the deep Seaport. The good thing is that all these road projects are ongoing.
“As announced at the meeting, the contract for Phase One of the Uyo – Nsit Atai – Okobo Road has been terminated and will be re-awarded very soon.”
The lawmaker added that the response of the Oron people is maximum support and loyalty for the Governor beyond 2027.
