The Night Manager Season 2: Confirmation, Cast & Everything We Know

Years after the first season of the BBC spy drama The Night Manager aired season 2 was officially announced with Tom Hiddleston returning. Based on the book by MI6 intelligence officer turned novelist John le Carrรฉ, The Night Manager was adapted for the small screen by Hanna creator David Farr and directed by Bird Box helmer Susanne Bier. The series brought together some of Britainโ€™s finest acting talents with Tom Hiddleston playing Jonathan Pine, a luxury hotel night manager and former soldier who is roped into infiltrating arms dealer Richard Roperโ€™s (Hugh Laurie) inner circle.

The first season of The Night Manager received widespread critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic and the series went on to win three Golden Globes, two Emmys, and three BAFTAs. Although the first season covered almost all of John le Carrรฉโ€™s novel, the success of The Night Manager left viewers wanting more. Thereโ€™s certainly enough enthusiasm for a second outing among the showโ€™s cast and crew, and nearly a decade later, the show finally got a green light.

Nearly a decade after Tom Hiddleston starred in the acclaimed first season, The Night Manager has been renewed for two more seasons. In a decision that surprised nearly everyone, the BBC has picked up the spy drama for two more seasons after the show had sat dormant. Little is known about the upcoming sophomore outing, except that Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role, and it is expected to begin filming sometime in 2024.

Tom Hiddleston’s notable projects since The Night Manager season 1:

Though hope was high that The Night Manager would be renewed for a second season sometime in the future, the years ticked by with little update. Now, the Tom Hiddleston-led spy series returned from the proverbial grave and has been renewed for not one, but two seasons by the BBC. It’s unclear what the future holds beyond season 3, and it may be that a two-season arc is in the works, necessitating a two-season renewal.

So far, the only name attached to the cast is Tom Hiddleston who will return to The Night Manager season 2 and 3 to play the eponymous character. Hiddleston shined in season 1 as hotel manager and former soldier Jonathan Pine, who finds himself infiltrating the world of a powerful arms dealer. Many other season 1 stars including Hugh Laurie and Elizabeth Debicki have expressed interest in returning, but it is unclear which characters will be needed until story details are revealed.

John le Carrรฉโ€™s original work was a standalone novel and season 1 of The Night Manager used up the entire story with little left over. With that in mind, season 2 will need to be a wholly original story, something that has never been done with a le Carrรฉ work before. Though the details remain under wraps, season 2 will likely see Hiddleston’s Jonathan Pine infiltrate some other dangerous criminal enterprise, building upon his successful infiltration of Roper’s weapons ring in season 1. However, until the plot is revealed, everything is pure speculation.
