The romance between Colt and Jody teased in the forthcoming action film plays on the characters’ history of previously dating while also showing they still have feelings for each other. This means their relationship will be starting from a very different point than Ken and Barbie’s, where they were already in a romantic relationship at the start of the film. With The Fall Guy and Barbie both having Gosling in a leading role for both film’s romances, more similarities could crop up when the action movie gets released.
However, it seems their relationships will be very different, as Ken ends up becoming a secret antagonist in Barbie when he learns about the patriarchy and tries to implement it into Barbieland. A similar type of twist for Colt is unlikely to transpire, since he’s in a very defined hero role as he searches for the missing star of Jody’s movie. While there could be some tension between the stuntman and director as he continues looking for the lost actor, it doesn’t seem like a major falling out will happen given the other stakes teased in the film.
Despite how different both movies are, though, Gosling and Blunt indicate the romance between their characters in The Fall Guy will be just as important to their movie as Ken and Barbie’s relationship was in Barbie. While there will be key differences between the romances of both films, the relationship between the leads is still a core element of how both movies develop.
