Jango Fett's New Weapon Proves He's Star Wars' Coolest Bounty Hunter (Sorry, Boba)

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Jango Fett #2! Fans of the Star Wars prequel trilogy are well aware of how undeniably awesome Jango Fett is, as he immediately proved himself to be a truly badass bounty hunter. Jango Fett could go toe-to-toe with Jedi, he was the personal hitman of Count Dooku, and he was chosen as the baseline for every Clone Trooper in the Clone Wars. However, the real reason Jango Fett is so awesome wasnโ€™t in the prequels at all, but an all-new comic, where heโ€™s shown using a weapon that proves heโ€™s Star Warsโ€™ coolest bounty hunter (sorry, Boba Fett).

In a preview for Star Wars: Jango Fett #2 by Ethan Sacks and Luke Ross, Jango Fett is doing a job for the Republic, hunting down a stolen statue of immense importance for a planet on the brink of civil war. In that effort, Fett decided to go to Coruscant to pay someone who traded in black market valuables such as this a visit – and he wasnโ€™t the only one.

A team of aliens hunting down the stolen statue had Jango Fettโ€™s contact cornered, as they also figured this person would know its whereabouts. When Fett arrived, they turned their attention to him, saying that they were on a black-ops mission, meaning no one could know they were there. Upon hearing that, Jango turns the tables on them. With the flick of his wrist, Jango Fett activated a โ€˜wrist-rocketโ€™-type weapon that shot toward the five aliens, only to split apart into five pieces, blowing through the skulls of each attacker simultaneously.

Jango Fettโ€™s multi-targeting wrist-rocket is way cooler than anything Boba Fett used throughout his Star Wars history, including and especially in the original trilogy. During that Star Wars era, the most hardcore weapon Boba Fett had was probably his flamethrower or his pulse rifle (which was featured in Star Wars: Holiday Special). While Boba Fettโ€™s weapons were cool, none of them can compare to what Jango Fett wields in this preview. One of the main reasons thatโ€™s the case is that Boba Fett was never shown using any of his weapons to the fullest extent in the original trilogy.

A New Hope (the โ€œRestored Editionโ€) and Empire Strikes Back set up Boba Fett as this unparalleled badass, but in Return of the Jedi, Fett is killed by Han Solo by accident in a scene that was played up for a laugh. Boba Fett didnโ€™t get the chance to shine in the movies, which only made Jango Fettโ€™s introduction in the prequels that much more special, as he fulfilled practically every promise Boba Fett failed to keep.

While different, the weapon Jango Fett uses in this preview is a lot like Din Djarinโ€™s โ€˜whistling birdsโ€™ from The Mandalorian, as Djarinโ€™s weapon is also housed on his wrist and can hit multiple enemies at once with a single shot. Add to that Din Djarinโ€™s many accomplishments as a bounty hunter, the fact that he wielded the Dark Saber for a time, and that he helped reunite the Mandalorian people, and itโ€™s clear that Mando was the one who actually inherited Jango Fettโ€™s โ€˜coolest bounty hunterโ€™ role in Star Wars, not Boba.

From Jango Fett doing everything Boba Fett didnโ€™t do – fought Jedi, worked more closely with the Sith, made a more widespread impact on the Star Wars universe – to the introduction of this new weapon that blows anything Boba used out of the water, itโ€™s more than fair to say that Jango Fett is Star Warsโ€™ coolest bounty hunter over Boba Fett – and this preview proves it.
