A renowned Christian cleric, Prophet Isa El-Buba, and Global President, Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN), have commended the Executive Chairman, Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukayode, for stepping up the fight against corruption and achievements recorded in recent time.
Speaking with the newsmen in Jos, Plateau State, Prophet El-Buba said what Nigerians are experiencing now is a clear departure from the past, where there was a lot of interference and shoddy prosecution of corrupt government officials.
The clergyman averred that there are clear instances of kickback and outright corruption where contracts were awarded without executing the contracts, adding that the country is in a mess today as a result of this.
โI want to commend the Economic and Financial Crime Commission; the man is doing a great job. We, as citizens, need to commend him for what he is doing. Nigeria needs competent people because the rot in our society is just too much. When the system is not going right, we need to confront it. If the system is working, those behind it deserve commendation.
โThe way the EFCC man is following things is commendable. We have instances where people collect money and never do anything; this is wickedness. Let us stand out in defence of people who are struggling to take the country out of the woods and are willing to sacrifice to make the country great again. The presidency too should be commended for his non-interference in the way the EFCC is going about its assignment,โ he said.
According to him, there are steps the President Bola Ahmed Tinubuโs administration has taken that deserve commendation. He added that the rate of the dollar to the naira has started dropping but expressed disappointment that the cost of essential commodities has refused to drop.
He called on the government at all levels through their appropriate agencies to clamp down on the unpatriotic citizens, taking advantage of the situation to exploit their fellow human beings.
โI must commend the CBN governor and the Minister of Finance for the way they are handling the economy, especially the dollar rate. But it is amazing that the dollar is coming down and the price of things is not coming down. This is wickedness. I think the government, through its agency, should clamp down on the unpatriotic people. It is unfortunate that it is ordinary people that are inflicting this kind of pain on their fellow ordinary Nigerians,โ he said.
On the judiciary, he implored the civil societies to shine their searchlight on the judiciary while the Nation Assembly, in conjunction with the executive, should sanction any erring judge.
โWhen judges err, the system should be able to penalise them. It is time for civil society to think rightly. It is time to speak out for the sake of future generations. One day, those at the helm of affairs in this nation will quit the scene, so what will become of the future generations?
