The Boys Creator Officially Launches GREASER – New "Dark and Twisted" Franchise

Darick Robertson, co-creator of The Boys, has announced a new comic franchise: Greaser. This franchise will share some thematic similarities with Robertson’s previous works, being described as “dark” and “twisted.” New details about the title have been revealed, including its cover and synopsis.

Popverse shared information about the announcement, which was revealed earlier this year at WonderCon 2024. Presently, a title for the beginning work of the franchise is known, as well as the creative team that will work on it. This new franchise will be part of Magma Comix’ 2024 lineup.

Darick Robertson is the creator of several comics, including Happy! and Transmetropolitan. He also worked on Astonishing X-Men: Nightcrawler, Fury, and Punisher. The Boys is his best-known work, alongside Garth Ennis, particularly given the acclaimed reception of the television adaptation.

Greaser will begin with a four-part series, titled Greaser: Gemini Blues. It will be written by Darick Robertson with art by Stephen B. Jones. The series could potentially have follow-up stories, though it has yet to begin and is slated to kick off this July. Robertson predominantly teased the franchise at WonderCon by expressing his approach to this new endeavor. While The Boys’ co-creator is able to write and illustrate his own work, his vision for Greaser includes only tackling the writing and allowing his story to be visually directed by Jones. The synopsis is as follows:

At a WonderCon panel, Robertson said, “It started when I was thinking ‘What if I take my dark twisted ideas and don’t draw them, and let someone else bring a new flavor to them?’ – and I love what we’ve done with it.” Should this series prove successful, he plans to create a sequel, which will be branded under a broad Greaser title. Robertson has delivered notable projects in the past and this new franchise will likely be no exception. His previous successes make Greaser: Gemini Blues a much-anticipated new work.

Magma Comix was founded in 2020 by Denton Tipton, who used to be an editor at IDW. The publisher follows a model pioneered by Image Comics, in which creator-owned comics will be released. Current and upcoming titles within the company’s lineup include Hell’s Half Acre, Principles of Necromancy, The Scale Trade, and Silicon Bandits. Greaser: Gemini Blues will seemingly blend vintage imagery and cultural inspiration with futuristic mechanics and imagery. Fans of The Boys can check out Robertson’s newest “dark, twisted” work this summer.

Greaser: Gemini Blues #1 will be available on July 3 from Magma Comix.
