One supe has been consistently nerfed throughout The Boys‘ first three seasons, but he might finally get his chance to shine in season 4. In The Boys‘ three-season runtime, some supes have portrayed incredible feats of strength, speed, and other extraordinary abilities, while others have been sidelined, underutilized, or, worse, killed in the most ruthless ways. For instance, The Boys introduced Daredevil’s parody, Blindspot, in season 2 and made him look utterly vulnerable when Homelander slapped his ears.
Supersonic’s fate in The Boys was even worse when Homelander figured out he was working for Starlight. Another supe’s powers in The Boys have been grossly downplayed since season 1. However, season 4’s trailer hints that this supe might finally get his shot at redeeming his underutilized potential.
The Boys season 4’s trailer features many shocking moments, making it hard for a viewer to focus on the little details. However, a closer look at the trailer reveals that the Amazon series might finally explore the true scale of The Deep’s powers. According to the original comics, The Deep is supposed to be a parody of DC’s Aquaman. In the show, in contrast, The Deep’s characterization is primarily meant for comic relief, and even his powers have not been portrayed too seriously. He is supposed to have everything from telepathy to superhuman strength, but Amazon’s The Boys has nerfed him since season 1.
Surprisingly, The Boys season 4’s trailer features a scene where he dukes it out with Starlight and leaves a massive dent on a fridge’s door with just one punch. Since nearly all supes seemingly have superhuman strength in The Boys‘ universe, his punching power may not seem particularly extraordinary. However, the fact that the trailer hints he may be a legitimate threat in The Boys season 4 to fairly powerful supes like Starlight suggests the show might finally reveal what his powers can do. His ability to fearlessly fight after shying away from danger for three seasons also means he is deadset on impressing Homelander.
The Seven was touted as the most formidable supe team in The Boys‘ early seasons, and rightfully so. It had some incredibly powerful supes, like Queen Maeve, Homelander, Black Noir, and even Stormfront, at one point. However, towards the end of The Boys season 3, Homelander kills Black Noir, Queen Maeve loses her powers, and Stromfront also dies. While only time will tell if the new recruits to the supe team, Sister Sage and Firecracker, will make up for Maeve and Noir’s absence, it seems like The Deep could become a worthy member of the group.
As The Boys‘ initial seasons confirmed, The Deep was only recruited to maintain diversity in The Seven. However, if The Boys season 4 puts his true potential on display, he could be on par with other strong supes like A-Train. The Seven has been looking relatively weak after many supe departures and deaths. However, with Sam and Cate potentially on board and The Deep realizing what he is capable of, The Seven could become almost invincible in The Boys season 4.
