Two alleged thieves identified as Akabue Favour, 18, and Obayi Chiemezie, 19, both males and residents of Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, are now in the police net for allegedly using toy guns to successfully rob a car from its owner.
They were arrested by police operatives serving at Oji-River Police Division of the Enugu State Police Command working with members of a neighbourhood watch group, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, stated on Saturday.
It was gathered that the incident occurred on May 3, 2024, around 5:20am.
Ndukwe said that two imitation revolver pistols, a snatched Honda car, a syringe containing a liquid substance suspected to be acid, and other exhibits were recovered from them.
According to him, โThe suspects are alleged to have used the toy guns to snatch the recovered car from a male suspect, robbing him of his cash, handset, and other belongings at Amaetiti-Akwu in Achi community of Oji-River Local Government Area, on the same date around 5.05am.
โBut they could not escape, as the operatives gave them a hot chase and apprehended them after the car skidded off the road into the bush.โ
He said the suspects would be arraigned and prosecuted once discreet investigations into the cases had been concluded.
