Following the reported abduction in the Dawaki Area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has insisted that it had rescued all abducted persons even as it said it had yet to receive fresh complaints of any missing residents.
The Police Commissioner, CP Benneth Igweh disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday, in Abuja.
Igweh was reacting to a question by NewsNGR on the discrepancies on the actual number of abducted persons in the area
There were reports that 20 residents were abducted on Sunday.
The FCT Command, acknowledging the incident, said that eight people who were abducted had been rescued
But some residents through their social handle on X, disclosed that nine of their relatives were still missing.
Reacting to the situation, CP Igweh maintained that all abducted victims were rescued, and if there are still residents found missing, then it should be reported.
He said, “There is no discrepancy. We have taken our stand on the matter. We said anybody who did not see his person should come and report to the police. We have not seen people so far, but we are expecting anybody.
“So, it is not a matter of reporting to the press. I said, “report to the police.”
The police on Monday, said it had a face-off with kidnappers who invaded the Dawaki area on Sunday night, and with the help of local hunters at Ushafa Hill via Bwari and Shishipe Hills via Mpape.
“This led to a fierce gun duel as the hoodlums were overwhelmed by the firepower of the operatives, forcing them to scamper to safety with various degrees of bullet injuries, and the victims were rescued,” the police said.
