Sanusi Reinstated As Emir Of Kano, Returns On Friday

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II has been reinstated as the Emir of Kano amid more political intrigues in the North Western State.

This development was confirmed by an Exclusive report by LEADERSHIP. This decision comes in the wake of the Kano State House of Assemblyโ€™s resolution to depose the current Emir and abolish the four new Emirates established under a controversial 2019 law.

Though the official announcement is pending, reliable sources indicate that Sanusi IIโ€™s reinstatement is imminent, with his expected return to Kano scheduled for Friday.

Insiders reveal, โ€œWith the passage of the Bill, Sanusi automatically stands reinstated. No need for confirmation, the thing is to wait for the Governor to assent to it.โ€

The restructuring of the Kano Emirate, which led to the creation of new Emirates, was perceived as a political strategy to reduce the influence of then Emir Sanusi II, a vocal critic of the former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje administration. This move fragmented the authority of the old Kano Emirate Council, diminishing its power and influence.

Following Thursdayโ€™s session, Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, the Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly and sponsor of the Amendment Bill, informed journalists, โ€œthe bill has been sent to the governor for assent, now there is no longer an active Emir in Kano in all the five Emirates; Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye. The law now provides the Governor to call on the traditional kingmakers to choose a new king.โ€

Furthermore, all district heads elevated or appointed under the repealed law are instructed to return to their previous positions.
