President Bola Tinubu on Saturday arrived Lagos State ahead of the flag off of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project.
The president was received at Murtala Mohammed Airport by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and top functionaries of the Lagos State Government.
Tinubu is expected to flag off the project, which has generated lots of controversy, on Sunday (tomorrow).
The people of Okun-Ajah community recently raised alarm over the imminent demolition of over 2000 houses in the community including its ancestral homes and Oba’s palace because of the controversial road project.
However, addressing stakeholders during a meeting in Lagos on Thursday, Minister of Works, David Umahi, informed that the Federal Government has diverted the road realignment to save telecommunications infrastructure and submarine cables, among others at the axis. This also means that Okun-Ajah community is now saved from demolition.
Tinubu will also commissioned the Dangote Group funded concrete-paved road to the ports in Apapa and Tin Can as well as the newly refurbished Third Mainland Bridge.
“Lagos on Sunday, the President will inaugurate the concrete-paved road to the nation’s major ports in Apapa and Tin Can Island. The reconstructed road which began under the Muhammadu Buhari Administration was financed by the Dangote Group, using its tax credits.
“On the same day, President Tinubu will formally inaugurate, by virtual means, the refurbished Third Mainland Bridge, which has drawn public acclaim for its excellent finishing and aesthetic furnishing. He will also commission, virtually, the rehabilitation of 330 roads and bridges across the country,” said Special Adviser Information and Strategy to the president, Bayo Onanuga.
