SUPER Eagles pair Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella have added the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) to the Bundesliga title they won with Bayer Leverkusen this season.

Bayer Leverkusen defeated Kaiserslautern 1-0 in the DFB-Pokal final today to clinch the trophy to complete a historic campaign for Xabi Alonso’s side.

Granit Xhaka netted for Leverkusen in the 17th minute to secure the hard-fought win despite playing for the entire second half with 10 men.

Ivorian centre-back Odilon Kossounou was sent off for two bookable offences one minute before half-time and Bayer Leverkusen had to hang on against the second-tier side.

Boniface, who has registered 21 goals and 10 assists in 34 appearances this season including two goals in three DFB-Pokal games, was an unused substitute tonight, while Tella was brought on in the 90th minute.

Despite their 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday night, Bayer Leverkusen have had an excellent campaign.

They won their first-ever Bundesliga title without losing a single match and were unbeaten in a record 51 matches across all competitions before the Europa League final defeat.

Tonight’s triumph is also the first time Bayer Leverkusen would win the DFB-Pokal since 1993.
