Tinubu flags off construction of Lagos-Calabar coastal road

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has officially launched the construction of the 700km Lagos-Calabar coastal road, with the ceremony taking place in the Victoria Area of Lagos State.

The event was attended by notable government figures including the Minister of Works Dave Umahi, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State.

President Tinubu expressed confidence in the successful completion of the road project during the ceremony, referring to it as a significant milestone.

Despite facing criticism from some prominent Nigerians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, President Tinubu remained resolute in his commitment to the project.

Acknowledging concerns over transparency and costs surrounding the project, the Federal Government adjusted the route to to avoid damaging some submarine cables.

Tinubu emphasized the transformative potential of the road, highlighting its role in fostering unity, prosperity, and job creation among communities.

โ€œThe project is more than a mere road. It is a symbol of hope, unity, and prosperity. It will connect communities, bring prosperity to people, and create opportunities for millions,โ€ he said.

Tinubu also lauded the contributions of Minister Umahi towards the project, recognizing its positive impact on the countryโ€™s tourism sector upon completion.
