Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers at the weekend abducted no fewer than 18 travellers who were traveling from Ekiti State to Ondo State.
The gunmen were said to have struck in the Irun-Akoko/Imesi axis of Ekiti highway on Saturday evening when the passengers were returning to Ikare-Akoko, headquarters of Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to a source, the abductors took the passengers into the forest.
One of the victims, Toyin Ogunyemi, who escaped from the kidnappers, disclosed that the abductors were yet to contact the families of the victims for ransom.
When contacted over the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanyo, disclosed that four of the passengers who escaped reported the incident to the police.
โFour people came to the station and reported that while on their way from Ado Ekiti to Ikare at Oyinmo Camp, Irun-Ado Ekiti Road, they were attacked by unknown gunmen.
โBut they escaped through the bush; a police search team has been deployed to the area.โ
