Top 5: VFB Stuttgart’s best players of the 2023/2024 season

Stuttgart, under coach Sebastian Hoeneß, enjoyed a highly successful season, which culminated in securing a UEFA Champions League spot for the first time since their last participation in 2009/2010.

In addition, five players including Alexander Nübel, Chris Führich, Maximilian Mittelstädt, Waldemar Anton, and Deniz Undav were named in the German national team squad for UEFA Euro 2024, marking the highest number of players ever selected from the club for any major tournament.

Despite spending most of the season in third place, the club secured second place with a handsome 4-0 victory over M’gladbach on the final matchday of the Bundesliga campaign after Bayern’s capitulation against Hoffenheim.

5. Angelo Stiller

The 23-year-old midfielder was an ever present feature in the Stuttgart setup this season, playing 32 out 34 Bundesliga games for the German side and rewarding his Hoeneß’s faith in him with really solid performances throughout the campaign.

Stiller was immense for Stuttgart in midfield this season, ranking high among the best passers, tacklers and runners in the team with 92 percent pass success rate, 55.44 percent successful tackles and 323km covered on the pitch.

The German contributed one goal and five assists across 32 Bundesliga appearances for Stuttgart.

4. Maximilian Mittelstädt

The 27-year-old defender joined Stuttgart from Hertha BSC in 2023 and he proved himself to be a solid player in defense for Sebastian Hoeneß’s team.

The German defender was always one of Stuttgart’s best players on the pitch when he featured for the team, making 31 appearances in the Bundesliga including 10 from the bench. He scored twice and provided four assists.

Mittelstädt’s impressive form for Stuttgart this season has earned him a national team call up to represent Germany at the Euros this summer.

3. Chris Führich

Another constant feature in this Stuttgart side, Führich played all 34 of his team’s Bundesliga games this season and he justified his coach’s trust in him by putting in several impressive performances throughout the season.

The 26-year-old German was one of Stuttgart’s most reliable attacking outlets, creating numerous opportunities in the final third for his teammates and contributing with a number of goals himself.

Führich scored 8 goals and provided 7 assists across 34 Bundesliga appearances this season.

2. Deniz Undav

Undav, who joined Stuttgart on loan from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion was one of Hoeneß’s most outstanding players this season and the German club will no doubt be looking to sign him permanently.

The 26-year-old center forward took up the role of finisher and creator for Stuttgart this season, scoring 18 goals and providing 9 assists across 30 Bundesliga appearances this season.

Thanks to his amazing form for Stuttgart this season, Undav is set to add to his one cap for the German national team when the Euros commences later this summer.

1. Serhou Guirassy

A relatively unknown player, Guirassy joined Stuttgart after impressing on loan from Rennes. The 27-year-old striker who averaged a goal every other game in the Bundesliga last season, turned on the style this campaign.

The Guinea international was Stuttgart’s best attacker this season, averaging one goal per game with 28 goals in 28 Bundesliga matches for Hoeneß’s men. He also assisted 2 goals and was named MOTM eight times for Stuttgart.

Guirassy will be one to watch when the summer transfer window opens as his performances this season have put top clubs across Europe on high alert.
