BARCELONA have confirmed the appointment of Hansi Flick as their new manager to replace Xavi Hernandez, whose departure was formally announced today.
The Spanish giants first took to social media to announce Flick’s arrival, writing on X: “Dear Hansi Flick, welcome aboard.”
The club then confirmed on their official website with a statement.
“FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached an agreement for the German to become men’s first team football coach until 30 June 2026,” the statement reads.
“The new coach has signed a contract at the Club’s offices accompanied by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta; first vice president responsible for the sporting area, Rafa Yuste and the Club’s sporting director, Anderson Luís de Souza, Deco.”
Flick, 59, worked as assistant manager of the German national for several years under Joachim Low and was Bayern Munich manager between 2019 and 2021, during which he won two Bundesliga titles and the 2020 UEFA Champions League trophy.
Moments before the Hansi Flick announcement, Barcelona confirmed the exit of Xavi, thanking their former captain for his services.
“FC Barcelona and Xavi Hernández Creus have reached an agreement to sever the contract the coach and his staff had with the Club until the end of the 2024/25 season,” the club stated.
“The Club wishes to publicly thanks Xavi and the rest of his coaching staff for their commitment, dedication and generosity, and for their help in reaching an agreement to sever the contract. Furthermore, we wish him success in the future on both a personal and professional level.”
