In a bid to address the mounting legal discord surrounding the Kano Emirate crisis, Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has taken decisive action by summoning the Chief Judges of the Federal High Court and the Kano State High Court.
The summon comes in the wake of conflicting interim injunctions issued by courts in Kano State regarding the tussle for the emirship.
The conflicting orders emerged as Justice S. A. Amobeda of the Federal High Court in Kano issued an eviction order against the reinstated Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, while Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu of the Kano State High Court issued a separate order, restraining security agencies from evicting or harassing Sanusi.
The feud between Sanusi and Aminu Ado Bayero for the royal stool has ignited protests from their supporters, amplifying tensions in Kano.
Sanusi’s recent reinstatement by Governor Abba Yusuf further intensified the situation, leading to a legal showdown in the courts.
Despite the conflicting orders, the Federal High Court in Kano, presided over by Justice S. A. Amobeda, issued an interim injunction ordering Sanusi’s eviction from the palace. The court also directed the police to ensure that all rights and privileges due to Aminu Bayero as the 15th Fulani Emir of Kano are accorded to him.
The injunction, issued in the interest of justice and peace in Kano State, emphasizes the need for a resolution to the ongoing dispute.
The court’s decision to adjourn the suit to June 4th underscores the complexity of the legal proceedings and the urgency of finding a lasting solution to the emirship tussle.
