US lab denies conducting poison test on Mohbad, contradicting Lagos Govt

The National Medical Services Laboratories (NMS Labs) in Pennsylvania, United States of America, has refuted claims by the Lagos State Government that a toxicology test was conducted at its facility to ascertain the cause of death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The controversy erupted following assertions made by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, suggesting that the toxicology test was conducted at NMS Labs in Pennsylvania.

However, responding to inquiries made by PUNCH Metro, the Client Services Associate, Forensics Division, Esther Dede, denied any involvement, stating, โ€œUnfortunately, we do not have a case for that patient.โ€

The discrepancy in information has raised questions about the authenticity of the toxicology test results and the circumstances surrounding Mohbadโ€™s demise. The singer, who died at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, had his death shrouded in controversy, prompting the Lagos State Police Command to inaugurate a special investigation team to probe the incident.

Furthermore, Punch said its correspondent independently verified the location of NMS Labs in Pennsylvania, confirming the absence of any record pertaining to Mohbadโ€™s toxicology test. Despite assertions by the state government, the lab maintains that no such test was conducted on the late artist.

In response to the conflicting reports, Commissioner Omotoso clarified that the information regarding the lab was provided to him by the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, the agency responsible for submitting the samples. Omotoso emphasized the need for further verification, acknowledging the discrepancies in the information provided.

Mohbadโ€™s death has not only sparked controversies but also led to the arrest of notable figures in the entertainment industry, including Naira Marley and Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry.

With conflicting reports and unresolved questions surrounding the toxicology test, the circumstances of Mohbadโ€™s demise remain under scrutiny, leaving the public eagerly awaiting clarification and closure on the matter.
