The Nigeria Football Federation are making moves to appoint a new technical adviser for the Super Eagles who would take over from Finidi George, Soccernet.ng reports.
Finidi George was appointed by the NFF in April, nearly two months after the expiration of Jose Peseiroโs contract. Recall that Finidi worked as an assistant under Peseiro during his time as Super Eagles coach and was appointed as an interim coach after the Portuguese left.
However, Finidiโs appointment has not gone as planned. As interim coach, the former Nigeria international led Nigeria to defeat Ghana. But he lost to Mali. Following his permanent appointment as Super Eagles coach, Finidi was thrown straight into the fire. He was expected to lead the Super Eagles to victory over South Africa and Benin in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. But Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw with South Africa and shockingly suffered a 2-1 defeat to Benin in a neutral venue. Those results have put Nigeria in a difficult situation in the World Cup qualifiers, as they are condemned to win at least four of their last six game to stand a chance.of qualifying.
In a recent development according to ScoreNigeria, the NFF have scheduled a meeting with the Sports Minister Owan Enoh in order to agree on getting a new technical adviser. The NFF want a more experienced coach, who Finidi will work under. And it would likely be a foreign coach.
In the coming days, news is expected from the glass house, as they look to restrategize before the next set of qualifiers.
