Fubara Releases N315m Counterpart Funds For PH Water Supply Project

The Rivers State Government has released a counterpart fund of N315m for the Port Harcourt Water Supply and Sanitation Project, a significant milestone in the third Urban Water Reform Program.

The project, wholly owned and executed by the state government, has received a $200m credit from the African Development Bank.

A statement from the Media Office Port Harcourt Water Corporation (PHWC) said the project aims to improve the water supply and sanitation infrastructure in Port Harcourt, enhancing the lives of residents and promoting sustainable development in the state.

According to the statement, with the development, the project is expected to gain momentum, bringing relief to the people of Rivers State.

The Port Harcourt Water Corporation, acting on behalf of the Rivers State Government, is spearheading the implementation of the Port Harcourt Water Supply and Sanitation Project.

The Managing Director and Project Director of the Corporation, Chief Ibibia Walter, during a briefing at the Port Harcourt Water Corporationโ€™s headquarters in Rumuola, Port Harcourt, expressed his appreciation to the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara and revealed the projectโ€™s progress.

Walter thanked the governor for his support and guidance, highlighting the significant milestones achieved in the Port Harcourt Water Supply and Sanitation Project.

He said the project has progressed significantly, moving from the conceptualization phase to design, design review, and procurement of main water works.

He noted that the contract was signed in 2020, marking the beginning of construction, which commenced in late 2020 and is currently ongoing, stressing that the projectโ€™s progress indicates a commitment to improving water supply and sanitation infrastructure in Port Harcourt.

He said: โ€œThis project has passed through the conception stage, design and design review stages, and procurement of the main water works, and a contract has been signed since 2020.

โ€œConstruction commenced in late 2020 and is ongoing.โ€
