LG Polls: Refuse to be manipulated, vote right candidates – Group urges Deltans

Ahead of the forthcoming local government elections slated for Saturday, in Delta State, a group, Initiative for Social Rights Concerns and Advancements, ISRCA, “No Justice, No Peace” urged Deltans to vote for the right candidates to better their lives.

ISRCA National Coordinator, Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen made the call in a statement sent to DAILY POST.

Agberen, a human rights activist said communities in the various local government areas should not allow anyone disguised as a godfather or the State Government to hand-pick candidates to represent them, saying such has been ravaging democracy, birthing poor representation and then underdevelopment.

According to Agberen, “Leaders that are selected not to attract projects to the areas but remain loyal to their benefactors or godfathers as we’ve had in recent times.”

Agberen noted that democracy is the system of governance which offers the best tools to fight against corruption, poverty and inequality.

He opined that “since we had always used the wrong tools, these things have continued striving against the people and processes of governance.

“These local government chairmen in the councils are responsible for rigging elections, most especially in the grassroots, which is the foundation that decides politics in Nigeria.

“We’ve been maligned and ridiculed by the same people who have exploited it and under-developed it, by allowing them decide the outcomes of the electoral process.”
