Court Jails Two Men Caught With 60,250 Bullets In Ondo

Two weapon suppliers have been sentenced to four years in prison by Justice Ekerete Akpan of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for transporting two trucks loaded with ammunition.

Abiodun Oguntosin and Rasaq Agboola were convicted on Thursday after pleading guilty to a two-count charge.

Justice Akpan found the duo guilty of abetting terrorism based on the evidence presented.

In his judgment, Justice Akpan stated: โ€œBased on the overwhelming evidence tendered by the Department of State Services (DSS) in addition to their plea of guilt, they are convicted accordingly.

โ€I hope that the convicts have learnt their lessons in a bitter way. The court shall apply the full wrath of the law against you if caught again.

โ€However, to serve as a deterrent to others, each of the convicts is sentenced to four years in prison.

โ€The live ammunition and trucks found in the possession of the convicts are forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria through the DSS.โ€

During the arraignment, DSS prosecuting counsel, Mr. T.A. Nurudeen, informed the court that Oguntosin and Agboola committed the offences on April 8 at Palupo-Itesiwaju, Akure South, Ondo State.

The convicts were apprehended by DSS operatives while transporting 60,250 rounds of 32mm cartridges, and 149mm Dina Gaza and red star brand cartridges in two trucks.

Nurudeen noted that the offences contravened Section 20 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
