Senator Mas’ud El-Jibril Doguwa, who previously represented Kano South senatorial zone, announced his departure from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the party’s anti-people policies as the reason for his exit.
In a statement issued in Kano, Doguwa explained that he, along with his supporters, decided to leave the APC because the party’s policies did not align with their political ideology and were detrimental to ordinary citizens.
He declared their return to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), emphasizing the collective decision made after extensive consultations with their political base.
“We have discovered, after careful appraisal of the activities of the APC governments, that many of their policies are anti peoples oriented, which do not align with our political ideology,” Doguwa stated.
“They prioritize policies that cause more harm than good to the ordinary citizens of this country.”
Doguwa, a close ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, criticized the APC for not leveraging the experience and insights of seasoned politicians within its ranks.
He expressed frustration over being underutilized and excluded from significant party discussions.
“This decision is consequent upon a series of wide-range consultations with our people who believe that APC, at all levels, does not take advantage of our long-standing experience in politics and governance,” he said.
“We feel we are being grossly underutilized, as we are rarely involved in any forum to discuss and share our experiences for the development of the Party, the State, or the Nation.”
Doguwa officially announced his resignation from the APC and all its committees effective Thursday, July 11, 2024.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving as a full-fledged member of the PDP, alongside his supporters and political associates.
