The Kaduna State Assembly has decided against the use of electronic voting while making changes to the electoral legislation.
The assembly approved a new law amending the State Electoral Law No. 2 of 2021, which eliminates the utilization of electronic voting machines.
The law was enacted by Speaker Yusuf Dahiru following a thorough review and acceptance of the revised law and suggestions presented by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Emmanuel Kantiyok.
The updated law specified that the definition of โBallot Boxโ in Section 3 should be modified by removing the reference to โElectronic Voting Machine.โ
โBallot Box means a receptacle for the collection of ballot paperโ.
It was suggested that the phrase โElectronic Deviceโ be removed in all instances, adding that within the lawโs content, the term โBallot Receiptโ be eliminated.
