THE Nigeria Police Force is set to begin the enforcement of the digitalized Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) in the upcoming two weeks, specifically starting on the 29th of July, 2024.
This move, according to the police, aims to modernize and digitalize the motor vehicle registration system, significantly reinforcing the safety and security framework of our nation.
In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, it was revealed that the e-CMR serves as an advanced, real-time online database of motor vehicle information developed to aid police investigations, operational endeavors, and combat various vehicle-related crimes like terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and armed robbery.
The shift towards a digital system will simplify the processes involved in documenting and verifying vehicle ownership and associated transactions.
According to the statement, in accordance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), services such as altering ownership details, changing license numbers, modifying engine specifications, and adjusting chassis/body features will become more seamless with the e-CMR system in place.
The statement added that following the directives of the IGP, services such as change of ownership, change of license number, change of engine, and change of chassis/body would become seamless as the e-CMR system would ensure the validation of vehicle genuineness and ownership, enhancing the ability to track and recover stolen vehicles effectively, and preventing the purchase of stolen vehicles by innocent buyers.
