Dr. Onadeko, Senator Abiru, Allen Onyema Among New Appointees to CIBN Business and Government Relations Committee

Dr. Babatunde Onadeko, Chief of Staff to former Ogun State Governor and current Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has been appointed as a member of the Business and Government Relations Committee by the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).

This esteemed committee plays a crucial role in enhancing the Instituteโ€™s advocacy and fostering relationships between the Institute, policymakers, and private sector leaders. Its mandate includes providing access and mediation between the Institute and key stakeholders to deepen the Instituteโ€™s robust advocacy program.

Expressing gratitude for the appointment, Dr. Onadeko outlined the committeeโ€™s responsibilities, which include establishing and maintaining relationships with top government officials across all armsโ€”executive and legislative at both federal and state levelsโ€”as well as influential players in Nigeriaโ€™s private sector. The committee also aims to attract high-profile influencers to the Instituteโ€™s programs and expedite the passage of the CIBN Act currently under review.

The 20-member committee is chaired by Senator Tokunbo Abiru, FCA, FCIB, former Managing Director of Polaris Bank, with Dr. Tony Okpanachi serving as Vice-Chairman. Other notable members include Mr. Allen Onyeama, FCIB (Chairman, Air Peace); Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, FCIB (Chairman, Oduโ€™a Investment Co. Ltd.); and Mrs. Bukola Smith, HCIB (MD/CEO, FSDH Merchant Bank). Additional members are Prof. Remi Bakare, Hajia Risi L. Ahmed, FCIB, Mr. Frank Aigbogun (Publisher/CEO, BusinessDay), and Mrs. Bolaji Agbede, HCIB (Acting MD/Group CEO, Access Holdings), with CIBN Registrar/CEO Mr. Akin Morakinyo, HCIB, serving as the committeeโ€™s secretary.

Dr. Onadekoโ€™s commitment to the CIBN is well-documented, having previously served as a member of the Capacity Building and Certification Committee for two terms between 2020 and 2024. His extensive experience and dedication to the banking sector are expected to significantly contribute to the committeeโ€™s goals and the Instituteโ€™s mission of strengthening ties between the banking industry and government entities.
