Teslim Igbalaye, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Osun State, has launched a multi-faceted empowerment programme benefiting hundreds of residents.
At an event held in Osogbo, the state capital, on Tuesday, Igbalaye distributed Point of Sale (POS) machines to 40 residents to enable them to start their own financial service businesses.
Additionally, he provided N15m in business grants and various equipment including pedicure machines and make-up kits to aspiring entrepreneurs.
The SSG also enrolled 500 elderly constituents into the Osun State Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS) to ensure their access to quality medical care.
Addressing the gathering in Osogbo on Tuesday, Igbalaye said “We embarked on this initiative with a singular vision: to equip our people with the skills and resources necessary to carve out better futures for themselves and their families.
“During the past two weeks, participants have immersed themselves in the art of makeup, gele making, manicure, and pedicure. These skills are not just about aesthetics; they represent avenues of economic independence and self-sufficiency.
“As we distribute certificates and equipment today, we are not merely handing out tools; we are unlocking doors of opportunity and igniting flames of potential.
“Moreover, I am delighted to announce that we have not stopped at skills training alone. With the help of God, we are distributing over 45 POS machines coupled with startup cash, installing hand pump and motorized boreholes in strategic wards, and disbursing cooperative grants totalling over N15 million.”
A beneficiary, Dare Agboola, commended the SSG for the gesture, saying it will go a long way to build nano-businesses in the state.
