‘I Read My Wife’s Poems To Survive ‘- Man Trapped In Hospital Lift For 42 Hours Says

A 59-year-old man was trapped in a hospital lift for 42 hours without food or water.

Ravindran Nair, a local resident, entered the lift at a Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, on Saturday afternoon to meet a doctor, but became stuck when the lift malfunctioned.

He remained trapped until Monday morning, when a lift operator discovered him in a state of distress.

Nair was rushed to the hospital’s emergency department, where he is being treated for severe dehydration and back pain.

His family, who had launched a search for him after he failed to return home, expressed relief and shock at the ordeal.

“We thought he was at work, and it wasn’t until we couldn’t reach him on his phone that we started looking for him. We are just grateful he is safe,” said a family member.

The state government has suspended three technicians responsible for maintaining the lift and launched an investigation into the incident.

Nair reportedly recited his wife’s poems to comfort himself during the prolonged ordeal.

“I held on to the hope that someone would come along to repair the lift and find me there,” he said.
