Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the appointment of second class emirs for the Gaya, Karaye, and Rano Emirates.
This announcement was made by the Director General of Media and Publicity to the governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, in a statement released to newsmen in Kano.
The newly appointed emirs are:
- Alhaji Muhammad Maharaz Karaye as the Emir of Karaye, who was previously the District Head of Rogo.
- Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar as the Emir of Rano, formerly the District Head of Bunkure.
- The deposed Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, reinstated as the Emir of Gaya.
Abdulkadir had accepted his deposition gracefully and expressed his willingness to serve in any capacity.
Governor Yusuf congratulated the newly appointed emirs and urged them to uphold the cultural heritage, peace, and unity of the people in their respective Emirates.
The statement confirmed that all appointments are effective immediately.
This development follows the recent passing of the Kano State Emirate Council Establishment Bill by the Kano Assembly.
Governor Yusuf signed the bill into law on Tuesday, leading to the creation of three second class emirates.
Speaking after signing the bill at the Kano State government house, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the establishment of these Emirates reflects the government’s recognition of the traditional institution.
