The seats of the two members who died within one week in the House of Representatives have been declared vacant.
The speaker of the House, Mr Tajudeen Abbas announced the vacant seats at plenary, on Wednesday, making the contest of the two seats officially open.
The two dead lawmakers are Olaide Akinremi who represented Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo state and Ekene Abubakar Adams who until his death represented Chikun Kajuru Federal. Constituency of Kaduna state.
Akinremi died on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 while Adams died on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
According to the Speaker, the announcement was in compliance with the provision of section 68(2) of the 1999 constitution as amended.
