LAGOS: 19-Year-Old Boy Dies After Father Injured Him With Shovel

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced investigation into the death of a 19-year-old boy allegedly beaten to death by his father.

It was gathered that the father of the deceased, while correcting him for an undisclosed offence, had given him a deep cut with a shovel.

The state Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident to NAN on Thursday, said the Alagbado Police Division received a report of the alleged crime on Tuesday.

He said: โ€œAt about 12.00 p.m. on July 5, at about 2.00 p.m., one Olumide gave his son, Adeyemi a deep cut under moderate correction, at his right hand side with a shovel over an undisclosed offence.โ€

According to him, the boy was rushed to a hospital, and from there to a general hospital, where he died as a result of tetanus infection

Hundeyin said the father of the deceased is currently nowhere to be found, adding that the case is under investigation.

โ€œThe young man was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. But when the injury became serious, he was taken to the General Hospital Ikeja, where he gave up the ghost as a result of tetanus infection, as confirmed by the doctor on duty. The scene was visited by detectives of the division.

โ€œHowever, the father of the victim is currently at large and the case is under investigation,โ€ the police spokesperson said.
