GUNMEN suspected to be bandits have ambushed and killed the Chief of Chanchanji, HRH Alhaji Tanimu Kunbiya, along with his son, Yusuf Tanimu.

The incident occurred yesterday evening as the traditional ruler and his son were returning from a funeral service in Takum.

In a press statement released by Emmanuel Bello, the special adviser to the governor on media and digital communication, Governor Agbu Kefas expressed deep sadness upon hearing about the tragic deaths of the traditional leader and his son.

The governor condemned the brutal manner in which the respected monarch was killed and has directed security agencies to investigate the incident and arrest those responsible for this heinous act, emphasizing the need to bring all involved to justice swiftly.

He called for calm among residents of Takum and assured them that he would spare no effort in apprehending the criminals responsible for this crime.

The governor reiterated his commitment to eliminating all forms of lawlessness and criminal activity in the state, declaring that the era of banditry is over due to the robust security measures being implemented by his administration.

Dr. Kefas also extended his condolences to the people of Chanchanji and Takum, urging everyone to remain calm and strive for peaceful coexistence.

He expressed his dedication to working alongside partners to ensure safety for all in the state.

This is the third time this year that a traditional ruler has been murdered by suspected bandits, after the killings of the chiefs of Sansani and Usmanu.
