BREAKING: Explosion rocks Buni Yadi market in Yobe

An explosion, suspected to be caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), shook the Buni Yadi market in Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State, on Friday. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM, injuring a young girl, according to a local resident, Ali Hassan, who spoke with Channels Television.

The Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kaiโ€™s spokesman, Captain Muhammad Shehu, confirmed the explosion and noted that another IED, planted in the market, was discovered and successfully detonated by Army personnel. The injured girl is currently receiving treatment at a local health facility in Buni Yadi.

Captain Shehu emphasized that the incident was a result of a planted IED, not a suicide bombing. Buni Yadi, located 54 kilometers from the state capital, Damaturu, has previously been a significant target of Boko Haram insurgents, who controlled the area for two years.

The recent incident underscores the persistent security challenges in the region. Authorities are continuing to investigate and secure the area to prevent further threats.
