Innoson Keys Into FG’s Gas Initiative, Builds Conversion Plant For CNG Vehicles

Nigeria’s indigenous manufacturer, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) has started building a Compress Natural Gas (CNG) manufacturing plant.

The plant will also have a conversion section for vehicles.

The company disclosed on its social media page that the IVM factory is under construction in Nnewi, Anambra State.

“We’re building Nigeria’s largest CNG Vehicles Manufacturing Plant and Conversion Centre to help vehicle users switch from petrol and diesel engines to CNG-powered vehicles,” IVM said on X.

IVM said the plant would be a cutting-edge facility dedicated to heavy-duty and CNG vehicles.

“Currently under construction, this automated hub will soon redefine Nigeria’s automotive landscape,” the manufacturer said.

The move is in line with the efforts of the federal government to bring down energy costs after fuel subsidy removal led to a surge in fuel price from N198 per litre to over N650.

After fuel subsidy removal, the Bola Tinubu government set up a Presidential CNG Initiative (Pi-CNG) as a palliative intervention directed at providing succor to the masses.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd has already rolled out 12 CNG stations to provide alternative fuel for Nigerians.

Under the Presidential CNG initiative, NNPC & NIPCO Gas entered into a strategic partnership for the expansion of CNG Stations across Nigeria. Under this partnership, 35 CNG Stations are to be constructed across Nigeria.
