TARABA: Troops neutralize wanted terrorist, Odumegu, recover ammunitions

TROOPS from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have eliminated a wanted terrorist in Taraba State.

The acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, Captain Oni Olubodunde, in a statement, reported that the operation took place on July 29 in the Gbeji-Afia area, a border community near the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

Captain Olubodunde explained that this operation was part of a broader strategy by the brigade to dismantle terrorist hideouts and ensure the safety and security of residents in Taraba State.

โ€œThe troops, while conducting a fighting patrol, encountered armed terrorists riding a motorcycle,โ€ the statement noted.

โ€œOur brave troops engaged the terrorists in an intense gunfight, resulting in the neutralization of one terrorist, while others fled into the bush with gunshot wounds.โ€

Recovered items from the operation included one AK-47 rifle and magazine, seven rounds of 7.62MM special ammunition, two mobile phones, and various charms.

The military identified the neutralized individual as Odumegu, the second-in-command to Full-Fire, a leader of a notorious terrorist group operating in the Taraba and Benue States, and who has been on the wanted list of security agencies.

The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their steadfast dedication and commitment and reiterated the brigadeโ€™s determination to maintain their efforts until all terrorist strongholds in Taraba State and beyond are eradicated.

The Commander also expressed gratitude to the local communities for their support and cooperation, highlighting that the fight against terrorism is a collective effort.

He urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
