Early Life and Background: Onwenu was born on January 31, 1952, in Arondizuogu, Ideato North, Imo State, Nigeria. She was the youngest daughter of Nigerian educationist and politician D. K. Onwenu, who passed away in a car accident when she was just four years old. Her mother, Hope, raised five children alone after being denied access to her late husbandโs property.
Educational Achievements: Onwenu held a BA in International Relations and Communication from Wellesley College, Massachusetts, and an MA in Media Studies from The New School for Social Research, New York. She worked as a tour guide for the United Nations before returning to Nigeria.
Broadcasting Career: Onwenu made a significant impact in broadcasting, working as a newsreader and reporter for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
