I turned down many offers before joining Sevilla — Kelechi Iheanacho

KELECHI Iheanacho has revealed that several other clubs approached him before he opted to sign for Sevilla.

The Super Eagles striker joined the Spanish club this week as a free agent after his contract at Leicester City expired.

Iheanacho signed a two-year deal with the LaLiga club after turning down other suitors.

“Yes, there were offers from many clubs. But yes, obviously, there was a clear idea of what they want me to do here and why they bring me here in football terms,” the Nigeria international told the Sevilla website.

“I was very clear about coming here. I am going to take advantage and give it my all, I hope it is a great opportunity.”

Iheanacho spent seven years at Leicester City, winning the FA Cup with them and helping them regain promotion to the English Premier League last season.

However, the 27-year-old had limited playing time last season when they were in the second-tier Championship, making only 23 appearances in a 46-match campaign and starting only 10.

“Last season was a mix of emotions. I played that first part of the season and didn’t get a chance in the second,” Iheanacho noted.

“The most important thing as a team was that we won the trophy. We were a good group and we did it for all of us and for Leicester City.

“That was the most important thing. It’s a good football club and a good family. It was great to end with a smile and a trophy.”
