Nigeria Needs Prayer To Scale Through Economic Hardship- Clergy

The Abuja Central District Supretendent of Assemblies of God Nigeria, Rev. Emeka Eze (PHD), has said that Nigeria needs prayer to scale through the current economic hardship.

The clergyman said this during a sermon on Sunday in the wake of a nationwide protest against hunger and economic hardship.

Nigeriaโ€™s low and middle class have stormed the streets of major states to show their grievances, which resulted from the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu.

Last year, President Tinubu discontinued fuel subsidies, which gulped more than N400bn monthly.

Nigeriaโ€™s petrol subsidy had been marred by corruption, but experts believe that it should be removed and channelled to infrastructural development.

Also, Nigeriaโ€™s Central Bank floated the naira a month later, resulting in spikes in the cost of living and losses to companies.

Rev. Eze said economic hardship is peculiar to emerging nation, adding that Nigeriaโ€™s case โ€œis not an exemption.โ€

According to the clergyman, beyond the predictions of economic experts, the country and all Nigerians need to pray and believe that change would come.

โ€œNo nation can enjoy divine help if it doesnโ€™t understand the place of prayer and the word of God.โ€

In Nigeria, prices of some food items surged more than 250 per cent year-on-year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

But the clergyman said all hope is not lost, particularly if the country can go back to God.

He said, โ€œThe nation is going through hardship, but spiritual people can conquer through the instrument of faith.

โ€œIf Nigerians can trust God, they should expect supernatural intervention. The problem is that we fear and worry too much. Faith is a spiritual force that commits God to perform.โ€
