The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has condemned the recent attacks on mosques and churches, calling it a shameful act by miscreants exploiting protests to commit such vandalism.
General Musa specifically addressed incidents in Kano, Kaduna, and other locations, emphasizing the military’s zero tolerance for these destructive actions.
In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Tuesday, General Musa reiterated the military’s commitment to protecting democracy in Nigeria.
He stated, “The Nigerian military loves democracy and shall protect it.”
He also condemned those hoisting flags of other countries in Nigeria, asserting, “Those hoisting flags of other countries in Nigeria were not doing the right. It’s wrong.”
General Musa highlighted the military’s support for the police in handling the situation, noting that the armed forces are closely observing the developments.
“We’ve been watching keenly how the police were battling with the situation and would not fold our arms and allow the situation to deteriorate,” he said.
This statement comes amidst a backdrop of increased tension and unrest in various parts of the country.
The Defence Chief’s comments signal a strong stance from the military against any further acts of violence and destruction of sacred places.
