Four people lost their lives while one sustained injury in the multiple accident that occurred around the Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, on Thursday evening.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, said the crash which happened around 7.35 pm, involved an Isuzu mini truck, a Toyota Camry, a Honda Accord with no registration number and a BUA trailer also with no registration number.
According to her, the Honda Accord went up in flames.
Okpe attributed the suspected cause of the accident to brake failure.
She said the injured victim was taken to a hospital in Magboro, while out of the four dead bodies, one was deposited at a morgue and the rest handed over to their family.
The FRSC spokesperson said: โThe number of people involved is not yet ascertained but 01 person was injured (male adult) while 04 persons were recorded dead (sic)) from the multiple crash (01 male adult and 03 female adult).
โThe suspected cause of the crash was brake failure which led to loss of control and the vehicle rammed into a car from behind while on motion.
โThe injured victim was taken to AZ Zonecare Hospital Magboro and out of the 04 death (sic) bodies, 01 was deposited at Real Divine Hospital morgue IBAFO while the other 03 were taken away by the family.โ
The FRSC Sector Commander for Ogun, Akinwumi Fasakin, sympathized with the families of the crash victims. He cautioned motorists to shun speed and pay more attention to vehicle routine checks to correct some defects.
