THE Chiefs of Defence Staff from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) today emphasized the importance of reintegrating Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso into the regional bloc.
The Chairman of the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff and Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, stated during a visit to the National Counter Terrorism Centre in Abuja, that their return is essential for addressing the growing insecurity in the region, particularly in terms of insurgency.
General Musa noted that the ECOWAS Chiefs of Defence Staff are actively working to facilitate the reintegration of these three countries, reiterating the urgent need for collaborative efforts to combat insecurity in West Africa.
The National Coordinator of the Counter-Terrorism Centre and host to the ECOWAS Chiefs of Defence Staff, Major General Adamu Laka, highlighted the necessity of cooperation among West African nations to effectively combat terrorism.
He further emphasized that sharing experiences among countries in the region is vital in the fight against terrorism.
