The Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, has strongly condemned the recent killings and unrest in the Ayati communities of Ukum Local Government Area, describing the violence as barbaric, shocking, and traumatizing.
In a statement issued by Freddie Adamgbe, the Tor Tivโs Special Assistant for Media and ICT, the traditional ruler expressed deep sorrow over the ongoing violence in the Sankera axis. He lamented the failure of sustained efforts by community leaders, government officials, and the Tiv Area Traditional Council (TATC) to curb the bloodshed, which has resulted in the murder of dozens.
The Tor Tiv criticized the involvement of external forces and local elements who have betrayed their own communities by participating in these violent acts. He noted that despite recent peace initiatives by the Sankera community aimed at restoring stability, the perpetrators continue their attacks, undermining efforts for reconciliation and development.
He offered condolences to the victims and their families, as well as to those displaced and living in fear due to the violence. The Tor Tiv urged citizens to support government and security efforts, emphasizing the need for perpetrators to be identified and brought to justice swiftly.
Reaffirming the commitment of the TATC to collaborate with the government to restore peace across Tiv land, the Tor Tiv warned that any youth involved in these violent acts, whether as perpetrators or accomplices, will face the full wrath of traditional authority.
Despite the grim situation, the Tor Tiv expressed confidence that peace would eventually be restored and encouraged the people to remain hopeful and supportive of peace efforts, despite the distressing and senseless violence they have endured.
